Classifying Networks by Geopgraphy

Campus Area Network:

It interconnects buildings or campus for example university campus or business campus.
Let's take an example of it:

What we can do in CAN is to make a central hub that everybody points back to and we can interconnect all these buildings to one location that is central hub. The technology we use to connect the buildings can be fiber optic cable and that is going to give us a distance that we need. CAN uses a less expensive type of fiber optic that is Multimode Fiber Optic (MMF) which has distance limitation of 2km, this distance is good for a campus area network we don't have that much big distance in CAN. We can have redundancy, we can connect buildings to one another forming mesh topology, if link between A and D goes down we can still go through all this by centralized sided.
  • It is high speed may be in GB/s
  • It interconnects nearby buildings with fiber optic cabling probably MMF(multimode fiber optic) is used
  • It's easy to add redundancy in CAN
